The belief to acceptance or rejecting what have been heard, depends on the following factor.

1.Who has said it …
2.What is Your relation to him
3.The amount of emotional attachment with that person
4.The amount of faith and credibility that person established during working or relationship based on past experience.
5.The situation in which it is told.
6.The expression of what have been said ( crying , fearing ….etc )
7.The emotional mood of the person hearing what other person saying …..
Because everything in this world is not verifiable ….we have to believe most of things told by peer group …example : regarding god , religion, cultures and traditions…..etc

Life is a real mystery which can be unveiled only by those who evaluate everything in terms of their five senses.
Every action leads to a reaction and behind every action there is a cause.

‘What is true for you may not be true for me’

To know the truth one has to go to the depth of the cause which triggers the action.

It can be considered a good message if one softens it by considering that what is true for you may not be true for me, but faith (not only religiously speaking)and believing in people, mainly the ones who surround you, are part of life, if one wants to build solid relations……

Don’t believe because its a generally held belief.

Don’t believe because it is written in books.
—-Yes if it’s written in scriptures , there is no harm in believing it , scriptures shows you the path for Self realization , otherwise un believers will be born again , may be as an animal at that time one has no chance of self realization.
Read what Shankaracharaya had to say to similar question .
“Human nature is the hardest of creaturely states to obtain, even more so that of manhood. Brahminhood is rarer still, and beyond that dedication to the path of Vedic religion. Beyond even that there is discrimination between self and non-self, but liberation by persistence in the state of the unity of God and self is not to be achieved except by the meritorious deeds of hundreds of thousands of lives. 2”

Don’t believe because it is of divine origin.
—-We had no telescopes , we had no Hubble in the space not laser , but how come we could calculate the # planets,stars, it’s distance, it’s influence on our psychic energy ,and what about eclipse? This knowledge was given to early Rishi’s, it’s has a divine origin.
So the above statement is wrong as per the discrimination of my intellect.

Don’t believe because someone else believes it.

—-Believe only what you see, what you test and judge to be true.
This pure western world materialistic approach( Asat or impermanent things ) , one can see Atma, it’s can’t be smelled/touched/heard/tasted , but it’s the “Sat” or truth, without Atma we are dead, I strongly urge you to read Gita in detail , don’t just believe such quotes which have no proper discrimination/authority on the subject matter.
Ajam nivikalpam , nirakara roopam means he who has no kalpa or mental thoughts, and he who has no form is the god, he is beyond your senses , mind comes after senses, yet he is beyond that too, intellect comes after mind yet he is beyond that too.
